WINTER 2024
Winter of 2024 marked a foundational phase in the development of POLARIS, as we focused on core structure manufacturing, system architecture, and integration to define the vessel’s long-term performance.
On the mechanical side, the team initiated FULL HULL MANUFACTURING, converting detailed design models into a physical structure capable of meeting hydrodynamic and structural demands. In parallel, extensive DESIGN INTEGRATION and STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS was undertaken for the MAST and its MOUNTING SYSTEM, ensuring stability requirements were met under dynamic sailing conditions. The team also advanced the SAIL LEADING EDGE MANUFACTURING, conducting testing and producing moulds to refine aerodynamic precision. Progress continued with the RUDDER FOIL MANUFACTURING, alongside the development and assembly of its ACTUATION AND WATER PROOFING SYSTEMS, ensuring responsive control and long-term durability in marine environments.
In parallel, the electrical team focused on completion of key steps for SENSOR INTEGRATION, enabling data flow across subsystems, and produced PCB PROTOTYPES to support evolving hardware requirements. A significant milestone this term was the development of the boat’s CONTROL ARCHITECTURE, which established the control framework for POLARIS.
On the software side, the team developed an INTEGRATED VIRTUAL SATELLITE FOR TESTING, strengthening simulation capabilities. Improvements included setting up the team’s WEBSITE DATABASE and enhancing data organization. Additionally, the software team advanced autonomy by developing OBSTACLE TRACKING SYSTEMS, laying the groundwork for intelligent navigation in complex maritime environments.
